Students win 3rd place in national virtual business competition

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY – A group of Westhampton Beach High School students took pride in their hometown, taking third place nationwide in a nationwide virtual business plan competition.

“It was an incredible accomplishment for our students as they competed against approximately 600 schools from across the country,” said Amy Demchak, Virtual Business Teacher at Westhampton Beach High School.

To earn the placement, Valerie Finke, Jackie Glaser, Jade Jackey, Bridget Lopez and Emma Strebel designed and showcased their own virtual business, the district said.

Their startup, a virtual financial education company, “produces short, engaging videos with the goal of improving financial literacy among their Generation Z consumer base,” the district said.

The company’s “income” is generated from commercial advertisements that appear at the end of their videos, allowing them to provide their educational videos for free, the district said.

The company also offers scholarship research, tutoring services, and financial webinars; their video series, “Mo ‘Tips,” is available for free on YouTube, the district said.

“The Westhampton Beach School District commends these students for an exceptional job,” the district said.
