South Pasadena High School Virtual Business Teams Win Multiple National Competition Awards – Pasadena Schools


The National Virtual Business Competitions feature some of the best and brightest student leaders and budding entrepreneurs from across the country. After receiving top honors at local and regional competitions during the school year, the following SPHS teams achieved national recognition in the championship round on April 21, 2021.

In the national finance competition, SPHS students Joseph Broderick and Matthew Baer placed first in the country.

In the national business plan competition of more than 300 teams, the SPHS university team, PEBBLY, placed fourth in the country. The team members are Mahal Montes, Michelle Jee, Mollie Parker, Olivia Yanover, Jason Kim and Matteo Lee.

Also in the national business plan competition, SPHS’s junior varsity team, MyMeals, placed fifth in the country. The team members are Jason Liu, Quentin Holmes, Kiyan Gerami, Diana Perea, Leo Barrera and Aidan Bar-Cohen.

The SPHS Intro to Virtual Team, TAZA, placed first in California in the SkillsUSA Entrepreneurship competition (business plan competition). The team members are Annalea Pearson, Avik Gautam, Oscar Cassidy and Isha Zafra.

The competitions provide virtual business students with unique opportunities to develop and demonstrate career preparation skills in different business areas, generate business for their virtual business ventures, gather real-world feedback from a diverse group of judges and assess performance against their peers at the national level.
