Excelsior University Group Aims to List Social Enterprise on JSSE
The first masters group from the School of Business Management and Entrepreneurial Studies at Excelsior Community College launched their social enterprise called IMG Sourcing Solutions.
The social enterprise is in partnership with Excelsior Community College. It will contribute to nation building by creating change in the lives of single youth in the communities served by the college by providing youth with training opportunities, access to technology, work experience and mentorship.
“Over a year, we hope to bring at least 200 young people to start. IMG is the unit that will provide training and empowerment in partnership with Excelsior,” said Milton Tomlinson, Community Relations and Resource Mobilization Officer at the college.
Tomlinson is also a member of the group of Masters students who conceptualized IMG Sourcing Solutions.
The social enterprise will target youth in the communities of Mountain View, Fletchers Land, Jonestown and surrounding areas.
It also wants to offer mediation services, restorative justice services, health education, social assistance and information to people who are victims of physical and mental abuse.
“We’re diversifying the whole college system right now, COVID has taught us to operate differently, and we’ve always been so forward-thinking,” he said.
One of IMG Sourcing Solutions’ strategic goals is to become a member of the Jamaica Social Stock Exchange within three years.
Dr. K’adamawe K’nife, a specialist in strategic planning and entrepreneurship, said social enterprises in Jamaica need support and attention to achieve the goals of Vision 2030.
“We can see how the ideas of this group support the 2030 vision. It has the economic component, and it certainly addresses the elements of social cohesion, which is a major gap,” he said at the launch of the report. business on Wednesday.
“The money that we spend to fight crime and violence, most of it is on the periphery, nothing gets to the root.”
