Edinburgh social enterprise GTS Solutions partners with Morrison Construction to help unemployed people
GTS Solutions CIC (GTS), one of Scotland’s leading social enterprises, has partnered with Morrison Construction to launch a training initiative aimed at attracting more people to the industry.
In collaboration with the Department of Work and Pensions, âPathways to Constructionâ begins today and will offer four-week courses designed to get graduates âready for workâ.
The tailor-made program will be delivered by GTS’s in-house training team via an innovative online classroom experience and will cover key areas such as health and safety, first aid, soft skills and digital communications.
As part of the course, candidates will spend two weeks working in conjunction with Morrison Construction on construction sites in Edinburgh and East Lothian.
The initiative is aimed at motivated individuals who have encountered barriers at work due to the pandemic and GTS Solutions COO, Tracey Smith, said: âWe are delighted to be able to provide another training opportunity for individuals. to help them find a job.
âWe aim to help individuals, through education, reduce barriers to work. Our role as a social enterprise educator is to work in partnership with government departments to support employability initiatives.
âIt’s been a very difficult and challenging year for a lot of people and it’s nice to be able to do it to hopefully help alleviate difficulties and stress.
âIt’s an intense program and those who pass will have the necessary certifications that will allow them to start working on a construction site.
âAs a company, Morrison Construction has a strong focus on social values ââand that resonates with us, so we are delighted to partner with them to implement this initiative. “

The tie-up with the DWP is the latest in a series of collaborations and Ms Smith added: âOur ongoing collaborative work with the East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, North Lanarkshire and Dundee Employment Centers is a testament to the working relationship that we talk to the work of the DWP. coaches and support staff.
âEven with the challenges presented in 2020, we were able to maintain 100% employability within our industry. By also working in our DWP regions, we were able to support 87.5% of our targeted positive results in the work. “
